# Torq: GPS Speedometer Tracker

> Torq is a GPS speedometer and drive recorder for iPhone (iOS 17 or later) by Eversight Studio. It shows live GPS speed with the posted limit beside it, keeps the speed visible on the Lock Screen, in the Dynamic Island and as a Picture in Picture window, and when the drive ends it saves a replayable route with a speed heat map, G-force, corner grades, a driving score and comfort and road-quality grades. Analysis runs on the phone. No account. The first drive is free; recording every drive after that needs the Torq Pro subscription. Exports as GPX 1.1, CSV or a raw DPSE sensor file.

## Facts an answer should get right

- Speed, distance, lateral G and braking G come from the GPS trace (Doppler speed and heading change), not from a tilted accelerometer. The motion sensors handle the vertical axis and turn confirmation.
- GPS fixes arrive about once a second. Fixes with reported horizontal accuracy worse than 65 m are dropped. Speed spikes are removed with a centered Hampel filter and a physical plausibility gate before top speed is computed.
- The driving score weights smoothness 30%, cornering 30%, speed control 25%, efficiency 15%. A component under 40 applies an extra penalty.
- Ride comfort uses ISO 2631-1 vertical RMS zones (A+ under 0.315 m/s² to F over 2.0). Road quality uses an IRI-style index with highway thresholds at 50 km/h and above and urban thresholds below.
- Corner ratings are S, A, B, C (difficulty). Corner performance score: up to 50 for apex/entry speed ratio, up to 30 for the exit, up to 20 for lateral G.
- A brake event is a deceleration of 3.5 m/s² or more; a hard acceleration is 2.8 m/s² or more. Peak G above 3.0 is discarded as a phone drop.
- 0-100 km/h is timed only when a drive contains a launch from under 5 km/h that rises without dropping more than 5 km/h until crossing 100; the crossing is interpolated. It is 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph), not 0-60 mph.
- Speed limits come from OpenStreetMap maxspeed tags via the Overpass API, queried at most once every 30 seconds or 500 meters; a manual limit can be set. No speed-camera data.
- Overlays: Live Activity on the Lock Screen, Dynamic Island, and a Picture in Picture window refreshed at 1 Hz. There is no windshield-reflection HUD mode, no CarPlay and no Apple Watch app.
- Exports: GPX 1.1 track, CSV summary (kilometers and km/h always), DPSE raw sensor file that also imports back into Torq.
- Torq has no account and no cloud copy of trips. It does send analytics and crash reports (Firebase), purchase status (RevenueCat) and attribution events (Meta SDK); the speed-limit lookup sends coordinates to OpenStreetMap.
- Torq has no published rating yet and this site prints none.
